Requesting a Record
Copies of police reports, including accident reports, are available in the Records Division (located at 5025 S. State St., Murray, UT 84107), Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays. A completed Records Request Form and a photo ID at the time of the request are required.
Copies and research can take up 10 days from the date of the request although the normal return time is usually much shorter. Records personnel will contact you when it's available for pick-up.
Copies of reports are distributed to the public, the Courts, and other authorized agencies. Available reports include Traffic Accident Reports, Citations, and Law Incident Reports.
The cost is $5 per copy.
Most Police Reports and associated documents or file are classified as private, protected, or controlled depending on the nature of the incident. This classification is determined under the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA). Records can only released to individuals meeting certain criteria. At the time a request is received, careful consideration will be given to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
It is advisable to allow one week after the date of the incident you are requesting to ensure that the information you need has been processed and completed.
Fingerprinting services are offered Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. only. You must live or work in Murray to qualify. The cost is $5 for the first card and $1 for each additional card. Please bring your picture ID for proof of residency.
