This is an examination of evidence and applicable law by a competent tribunal to determine the issue of specified charges.

Bench Trial

A trial before a judge rather than a jury. The judge determines all questions of law and decides the contested issues of fact.

Jury Trial

A trial before one's peers. In justice courts, the jury will sit 4 members, chosen from the general population on a random basis. The role of the jury is to decide issues of fact, not questions of law.
