Murray City is one of seven member entities that are a part of CVWRF (Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility). Other member entities include Cottonwood Improvement District, Granger-Hunter Improvement District, Kearns Improvement District, Mt, Olympus Improvement District, Taylorsville Bennion Improvement District, and South Salt Lake City. CVWRF treats an average daily flow of 50 million gallons per day (MGD).
CVWRF is undergoing improvements and a treatment process upgrade in order to meet the State of Utah Division of Water Quality (DWQ) adopted rule (Technology-Based Phosphorus Effluent Limits or TBPEL Rule, R317-1-3.3) that requires wastewater facilities to install processes that remove phosphorus from their effluent discharge. The DWQ has also lowered permit limits for ammonia and several other pollutants in CVWRF’s effluent discharge.
