Wastewater

About Us

Murray City Sewer was founded as a department shortly after the city's own independence in 1903. As a city we recognize the importance and impact of creating, maintaining, and building a safe and healthy wastewater system. In order to do our part over time we have partnered with similar organizations to better improve our methods and practices.

Murray City Wastewater Division goal is to effectively clean and maintain the Murray City sewer collection system in order to protect human health and the environment.  This is done by responsibly cleaning, maintaining the collection system infrastructure, and properly treating the wastewater that flows through the Murray City sewer collection system.

Murray City Wastewater collection system consists of a network with over 136 miles of pipe and over 2500 manholes.  The service area for the system is over 8 square miles and serves over 9500 residential and commercial connections. Murray City has 3 lift stations within the collection system.  These lift stations collect wastewater from lower elevation area’s and pump up to a higher elevation so the wastewater can gravity flow through the collection system and to Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility to be treated.  Combined these lift stations pump approximately 710,000 gallons per day and service approximately 2,600 homes and businesses.
